THE LIFE BEAUTIFUL
Tansen Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

No. 2/2013
28.01.2013

In the last blog we read about HOW TO MAKE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS.

If you are like majority of the people, your New Year Resolutions might have crumbled already! You must have exercised a couple of days and then abandoned your resolution of exercising daily; you might have eaten healthy food a couple of days and then resigned yourself to tasty and fatty food; you might have started learning a new skill and then found that you have ‘no time’ to give to it!

Well, all is not lost. New Year Resolutions can be made again or revised.

In the last blog we also read about How To Be Happy.

Perhaps, you want to be healthy.

So, here is How To Be Healthy.

And, lastly, in the last blog you read about:

ORIGIN OF MUSIC

So, here is:

ORIGIN OF DANCE

According to Hindu mythology, the Taandav of Lord Shiva symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, birth and death. His dance is therefore the dance of the Universe, the throb of eternal life. Nataraja (literally the king of dancers), or Lord Shiva in a graceful dancing pose, is worshipped all over India, by classical dancers.
When a group of Gods and Godesses pleaded with Lord Brahma for another simple Veda for the common man in Kaliyuga to be created, he created the Panchamaveda, the Fifth Veda, or NatyaVeda. He took pathya, the words from the Rigveda, abhinaya, the communicating elements of the body from the Yajurveda, geet, the music and chant from the Samaveda, and rasa, the vital sentiment and emotional element from the Atharvaveda to form the fifth Veda, NatyaVeda.
After creating this Veda, Lord Brahma handed it to sage Bharata and asked him to propagate it on the earth. The sage Bharata then wrote Natyasastra, which is the common root for all classical dance forms of India. It is the common text for all the Indian dance forms.
Another legend has that the Goddess Parvathi taught art of dance to Usha, the daughter of demon Banasura. Later, Usha handed it to the Gopikas of the city of Dwaraka, the Lord Krishna's birth place. In reality, the Gods and the Goddesses, being dancers themselves, have been passing the art of the heavenly dance through many human channels.

The Motto of The Life Beautiful is to: Be Happy! Be Healthy! Be Successful!

Here also, Happiness is paramount as Health and Success are also for Happiness.

Here is a short article on How To Be Happy!

And, below follows a short introduction to the Origin of Music.

ORIGIN OF MUSIC

In India, the origin of music, indeed sound itself is traced back to the origin of the universe. According to Hindu mythology, the first ever sound is the Naadbrahma (Brhma as Sound), which pervades the entire universe. It is the purest sound in the universe and is believed to be unstuck. Another myth associates the origin of sound (and dance) with the Tandava of Shiva and Onkar. It is said that sage Narada then introduced the art of music to the earth from heaven. Like dance, origin of the music in India was in devotional songs and was restricted to religious and ritualistic purposes and was mainly used in temples only. This then developed in association with folk music and other musical forms of India and gradually derived its own musical characteristics.

Well, this is all for this inaugural blog.

Come back regularly and you would find exciting and interesting things happening here!
